MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK

Murchison Falls NP is located in the western part of Uganda covering 3,840km2 and is the largest park and one of the first opened in 1952. Murchison Falls Conservation Area (MFCA) encompasses Murchison Falls National Park, Bugungu, and Karuma Falls wildlife reserves. The park is split in half by the Victoria Nile. MFNP lies at the northing end of the Albertine Rift Valley, where the Bunyoro escarpment plummets into the vast, palm-dotted savanna. At the Murchison Falls, the Nile River falls over the edge of the western Rift valley and forms the spectacular Murchison falls as it dashes through a narrow crevice before it falls about 40 meters forming a beautiful rainbow. The river banks host crocodiles, waterbucks, hippos, and buffalos and many aquatic wildlife. The park has 450 bird species recorded and has 4 of the African Big Five (Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Buffalo Hartebeests, Oribi, countless Antelope,black and white colobus monkey, Patas monkey Giraffe,chimpanzees etc.
